Here is a piece i wrote 4 years ago and still think much of what i’ve wrote there are still applicable to me to this day.
Wonder; noun /ˈwʌn.dər/
- Great surprise : unexpected
- Great admiration : dream/aspiration
- Seeing : real
- Experiencing : live in it
- Strange : make no sense
- New : inspiration/first
Life can be quite dull, routine, mundane, stressful and predictable some time, for many of us. Don’t feel bad about it; it is necessary to have people who work day and night doing repetitive works just to keep everything in order and zero error. The housewives, the cleaners, the security guards, the administrative staffs, the factory workers … the list goes on.
On top of that, appreciate as well that we are human being who are “made” to have different types of feelings and to have the opportunity to feel them all, be it good or bad. Bad feeling is unavoidable in life, but we can tackle it by collecting more wonder moments in our lives and recall it whenever we need it.
Talking about ‘wonder’, I can tell you that I truly appreciate it. It is the moment where you can smile without having to make any justification or rationalization by just seeing things around you, people moving past you, and life feels like in a state of movie-like or just simply awesome. It feels so good, familiar, beautiful, inspiring, comfortable that you wish you have the supernatural power to freeze the time and to stay put for as long as you want it .
Having said that, I thought it will be good if I list down moments where I’ve experience this goddess called Wonder and share them with you all.

Have you ever wondered why do “wonder” exist? I mean, why are we made to feel this feeling? What’s the purpose? How can it benefit us? We do agree that it is a good feeling and we want more. But is it realistic to have it when we have so much other things to divert our attention to? Our pay check, dealing with difficult people, caught in a traffic et cetera?
If you notice some moments from my list, wonder can actually happen inexpensively, anywhere and anytime as you want. Don’t tell me that you have to travel to a foreign country or sit in a Ferrari to feel wonder although that is one way to feel it.
I do believe every one of us has that simple and inexpensive wonder moment at least once in our lifetime. It could be taking a walk under the stars, seeing a beautiful piece of art or listening to some majestic music that make you question, “How will it feel if one day we no longer have stars?”, “What’s the painter trying to convey through his/her art?”, “What has the writer experienced because his music touches my heart and go straight into my soul?”
Each time you encounter wonder, freeze that moment by being in the moment and make a mental note of it as a point of reference whenever you need it in the future. Unleash its power whenever you find yourself stuck in an annoying situation, like queuing for your turn to get into the tube after a long and tiring day at work and all you want to do is to be home, take a warm nice shower, fill your hungry stomach with some hot home-cooked food and relax. I understand that feeling of nothing but crap-ness, totally.
Next time when you are stuck in that not so awesome moment, go back to the wonder moments that you have experienced and feel the feeling of beauty, transformation, awesomeness, being transported, being one with the universe again. Don’t raise your brows of its effectiveness in lifting you up and change your whole perspective towards your current reality before you even try it. It has the power to make your problems seem insignificant; you yourself as an individual seem so small in comparison to the vast universe and with that realization, you are back to life with new strength to move on and tackle anything that comes your way.
It sounds simple and easy. Yes, it is indeed. Spare some time to make your own list as well as we human often time slips back to the mundane life and forget to pay attention to the simple thing in life that will bring a smile to our face or heart. Make people around you wonder why are you still smiling when we are expected by the society to be worry, to be angry, to be unhappy, to be realistic in order to not be labelled as naïve or abnormal.
Let me end this topic with a quote by Socrates.
. Wisdom begins in wonder .
Keep your eyes open and keep wondering, my ladies.
